She was backed in the summer of 2003 just after she turned 3. A couple of months later she was shown some novice XC jumps as part of a group lesson on a superb brand new course. They jumped a variety of fences, steps, ditches etc, about 7 in total. Apart from a small cross pole in our sandschool, she had seen no other fence at all prior to this. Although she was there with four other, much older and more experienced horses, she was one of only two that did not refuse a single fence (the other non refuser, was her uncle, Prince, another of our horses!). Just to give her more experience, we took her to our National Foaling Bank Show, where she was entered in the Horse Breeding Class (a small, combined class of a variety of types of horses ranging from 2 – 4 years old). The judge was very impressed by her, and commented on her super personality. Outside the ring, we were told that she had been the best behaved of all of them (and some of “them” were county standard, so had seen a few more shows than our girl!). Along with our other recently backed youngster, Hero’s Charm will be turned away for the winter to relax and chill out before being returned to her education in the spring. Nonetheless, in the few months since she has been backed she demonstrated a lovely attitude - all she ever wants to do is please her rider/handler, and that has been accompanied by an exceptional ability in all that has been asked of her. Certainly, when we do breed from her, we expect her foals to be ideal performance Irish Draughts for leisure riders in any discipline.
