We have
frozen semen for three outstanding RID stallions – Cork Arthur;
Gortlea Ruler and Huntingfield Heathcliffe, who successfully completed
and passed the Performance Tests in Ireland in 2003 and is proving to
be a very popular stallion, much in demand by breeders in Ireland where
he stands.
The frozen
semen is of the highest quality, and is certified for sale and use throughout
the UK and Europe. In addition to the cost of the semen, the cost of
transport to a mainland UK destination is about £50 plus VAT,
which includes the hire of the Equitainer and it’s collection
and return within 7 days. The cost to ship to Europe would be around
the £250 mark (plus VAT if applicable) but obviously depends on
the precise location.
The cost
of having your mare inseminated with frozen semen does, of course, depend
on your vet, etc. Our vet offers a “package”, whereby a
mare will go to the vets for a week, where she will be scanned 3 times
a day, and inseminated at the optimum time. They do this for about £250
plus VAT. Any additional veterinary procedures or extras are not included
in this price.
The advantages
of frozen semen are that your mare does not necessarily have to leave
your yard or, at least, have to travel further than your nearest stud
vets. It means that the mare owner has the choice of a wider range of
stallions, as there is no geographical limitation to which stallions
you can use if frozen is available from them. This also means you are
bringing a valuable “outcross” into your area, and the resultant
foal will not be one of many sired by one of the more local stallions
to your area. This will give you an advantage either when you come to
sell the foal, or breed from it yourself!
All the
semen is stored at one of the best and most respected facilities in
the country – at Genus UK. The minimum criteria Genus has for
semen to be of commercially viable quality is very high, and all of
the frozen semen from the three stallions not only meets, but exceeds
the levels required, thus making it very high quality semen indeed.
